Remove contamination with the right flushing approach for your system

From routine circulation filtration to engineered high-velocity flushing, DFS provides the level of cleaning needed to protect critical components and return systems to reliable service.

Keep contamination from
following your system into its next startup.

Debris can enter during construction, accumulate over time, spread after equipment failure or remain behind during a lubricant change. Flushing removes contamination from the reservoir and piping before it reaches critical components or contaminates new oil. Flushing may be needed for:

New equipment deserves a clean start.

New equipment builds, lubricant conversions and fluid change-outs are opportunities to remove contamination before it enters service.

Planned maintenance is the ideal time to flush.

Scheduled outages provide the best opportunity to remove debris from reservoirs and piping before returning equipment to operation.

Equipment failures can spread contamination.

Bearing, pump and component failures, along with persistent contamination, often require flushing before the system can be safely returned to service.

Not every system needs the same level of service.

DFS evaluates the system and recommends the appropriate approach rather than automatically prescribing the most extensive flush.

CIRCULATION FILTRATION

Uses the system’s pumps and normal flow path while equipment remains in operation. Best suited for routine maintenance with limited time and scope

RINSE OR PURGE

Circulates a neutral fluid or new oil to displace an existing lubricant, detergent or cleaning agent.

SYSTEM FLUSH

Uses the system pumps with temporary bypasses around critical components. Test screens and particle counts are used to verify cleanliness.

HIGH-VELOCITY OIL FLUSH

Uses external equipment and engineered turbulent flow to remove widespread contamination from piping and internal surfaces.

Engineered to remove contamination
throughout the system

Some projects require more than routine filtration. A high-velocity oil flush is designed to achieve turbulent flow capable of dislodging debris that may remain trapped during normal system operation. The program may include:

Calculated flow rates and Reynolds-number targets

External flushing equipment

Temporary tie-ins and jumper hoses

Bypasses around pumps and critical components

Test screens and particle-count monitoring

An ASTM D6439-based flushing plan

Turnkey flushing support:
One team from planning through verification

1
Plan

Review the piping system, determine the appropriate flush method and establish the required equipment and flow rates.

2
Prepare

Remove and manage the oil, clean the reservoir and install any necessary tie-ins, bypasses, jumper hoses and test screens.

3
Flush and inspect

Continue flushing and inspecting the system until the agreed cleanliness target is met.

4
Reinstate and verify

Remove temporary equipment, complete post-flush cleaning, refill and filter the oil, verify cleanliness and document the results.

Protect the system. Verify the results.

A successful flush helps protect your equipment
and provides documentation to support the results.

PROTECT THE SYSTEM AFTER STARTUP

A properly planned flush helps prevent:

Construction debris reaching bearings and other critical components

Failure debris causing recurring equipment problems

New oil becoming contaminated immediately

Debris remaining trapped throughout system piping

Delayed startup or commissioning

RESULTS YOU CAN VERIFY

Depending on the project,
DFS documentation may include:

Before-and-after reservoir photography

Test-screen inspections and particle counts

Collected debris for root-cause analysis

Independent laboratory results

Target ISO cleanliness verification

Detailed post-service report

Confined-space work performed in accordance with project requirements
